Haya Fatimah, Ph.D. is an Assistant Professor at the University of Notre Dame and the director of the PoPPy Lab. Dr. Fatimah studies complex dynamics in psychopathology, especially borderline personality and comorbid disorders, with the goal of developing personalized treatments. She completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at the University of South Florida and her clinical internship at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
Dr. Fatimah has two beautiful daughters, andtherefore, no hobbies at all.
Staff

Chinue "Chi" Mutiso is the PoPPy Lab Coordinator. Chi graduated from The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Criminology and Psychology. Their research interests center around community-based interventions, with a particular focus on sociocultural and environmental factors shape mental health, stress, and resilience, particularly within Black and minoritized communities. Chi plans to pursue a PhD in Clinical Psychology in the near future. Outside of research, Chi enjoys photography, reading, and taking well-deserved naps.
Graduate Students

Elias Ghazal is a first-year year PhD student in Clinical Psychology. Prior to attending Notre Dame, Elias graduated from Purdue University after pursuing a B.S. in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. He worked as a research assistant at Grand Valley State University under the mentorship of Dr. Mario Fific, studying the cognitive factors underlying conspiratorial belief. His research interests broadly involve computational modeling of psychopathology symptoms and personality, particularly through the lens of complex systems theory. In his free time he likes spending time with friends and family, and unsuccessfully attempting to practice music and also meditation.

ZhaoXuan (Shawn) Shang is a first-year PhD student in the Clinical Psychology program. His research employs quantitative methods to investigate the dynamics of psychopathology and personality, with particular interest in borderline personality disorders, suicidality, and emotional regulation processes, aiming to leverage advanced quantitative methods alongside clinical insights to better understand these temporal dynamics and inform the development of targeted clinical interventions.Before joining Notre Dame, Shawn worked as a licensed psychotherapist in China and as a research assistant at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, roles in which he authored several peer-reviewed publications and presented research at conferences on the psychopathological mechanisms underlying mental disorders.
Research Assistants

Yves-Ann Comeau is a sophomore from Atlanta studying Neuroscience & Behavior with a minor in HHS. Yves-Ann is on a path to becoming a physician, possibly specializing in OBGYN. Outside of academics, she loves to paint, create content, travel, and bake.

Sarah Hill is a post-baccalaureate student studying psychology after ten years of performing
and teaching music. Originally from Great Falls, Montana, Sarah is interested in personality and
neurodevelopmental disorders, and plans to pursue graduate study in clinical psychology. When
she is not studying or practicing, Sarah enjoys cooking, spending time outdoors, and hanging
out with her cat, Gene.

Finnbarr Munley is a first-year from Chicago, studying Neuroscience and Behavior in the Glynn Family Honors Program. Finnbarr is excited to learn more about the field of social and behavioral research in the context of complex psychopathologies. He is also passionate about using research findings to better inform health advocacy work and policy. In his free time, Finnbarr enjoys running, swimming, rock climbing, and spending time with friends. Finnbarr plans on continuing to contribute to research in the field during his time at Notre Dame, in preparation for a career in medicine and policy.

Natalie Sheridan is a Junior studying Psychology and Sociology at Notre Dame. Natalie plans to attend graduate school to pursue a career in Forensic Psychology. Natalie’s primary interests include working with youth with exposure to violence and understanding effects of trauma on social functioning. Outside of academics, Natalie enjoys immersing herself in nature, volunteering, listening to new music, and meeting new people!
